Ghost is now on Homebrew. brew install timescale/tap/ghost works on macOS and Linux — Homebrew handles updates from there.
ghost create dedicated and ghost fork dedicated are available. Dedicated databases are always-on and aren't subject to free-tier compute or storage limits — for teams that need reserved capacity. Requires a payment method on file.
The Ghost CLI is now open source. Read the code, file issues, or send PRs at github.com/timescale/ghost.
ghost sql now accepts queries via stdin when no argument is given. Pipe in files, chain commands, or script your workflows — cat query.sql | ghost sql mydb just works.
ghost logout now revokes your refresh token server-side, not just clearing local credentials. Sessions are properly invalidated when you sign out.
Ghost now authenticates with user tokens instead of API keys. This is a cleaner model that ties sessions to your identity rather than to a static key. Existing logins were migrated automatically.
ghost login now automatically detects headless environments and falls back to the device auth flow — no need to remember the --headless flag. If Ghost can't open a browser, it shows you a code to enter on any device instead.
The read_only config option now blocks destructive MCP tools too — not just CLI commands. Agents running with read_only: true can't delete, pause, or run write queries, even through tool calls.
New ghost rename command and ghost_rename MCP tool. Give your databases better names without recreating them.
More commands and MCP tools now check that a database is fully ready before running. Fewer "connection refused" errors when working with freshly created or resumed databases.
New ghost psql command opens an interactive psql session connected to your database. No more copying connection strings — just ghost psql <name> and you're in.
ghost_status is now available as an MCP tool. Agents can check account usage, database counts, and quota limits without dropping to the CLI.
New ghost status command shows your compute hours, storage, and database counts at a glance. See how much of your quota you're using and how many databases are running, paused, or in transition. Supports --json and --yaml output.
ghost login --headless uses the OAuth Device Flow to authenticate from environments without a browser — sandboxes, VMs, containers, remote servers. Enter a code on any device and you're in.
ghost connect --read-only generates a read-only connection string for your database. Useful for sharing with agents, dashboards, or anything that shouldn't be writing data.
Database credentials are now automatically removed from your .pgpass file when you delete a database. No more stale entries piling up.
ghost ls and ghost rm now work as shortcuts for ghost list and ghost delete. Fewer keystrokes, same results.
New read_only config option prevents destructive operations like delete, pause, and sql writes. Perfect for giving agents access to your databases without worrying about accidental data loss.
New ghost feedback command lets you send feedback, report bugs, or request features directly from your terminal. Also available as an MCP tool so agents can report issues too.
Added --wait flag to ghost create and ghost fork. The command blocks until your database is fully ready to accept connections. No more polling or guessing — just wait and go.
New ghost logs command shows logs for any database. Plus, agents can now authenticate themselves via the ghost_login MCP tool — no human in the loop required.
New ghost schema command displays your database structure in a format optimized for AI. Tables, views, constraints, indexes, and enums — all formatted so Claude can write accurate queries without guessing at your schema.
The ghost sql command and ghost_sql MCP tool now support multi-statement queries with multiple result sets. This was a common limitation we hit in early Tiger CLI versions. Now it's fixed from day one in Ghost.
All Ghost CLI commands are now implemented: create, fork, connect, list, sql, pause, resume, delete, and mcp. Everything you need to manage databases from the terminal.
Ghost is here. We're starting with a small private beta: unlimited Postgres databases, hard spending caps, and an agent-native interface. No dashboards, no clicking around. Just ghost create and go.
